Thinking About Adoption?

You may have heard things about adoption that don’t fully reflect what it looks like today.

If adoption has crossed your mind, it’s worth taking a closer look.

Modern adoption is very different from how it used to be. It is a personal, flexible process in which you remain at the center of each decision.

Choosing adoption is not walking away from your child. It is making a thoughtful decision about their future and your own, while still having a say in what that future looks like.

You Shape the Plan

If you choose adoption, you are not handing over control.

You have the ability to:

  • Choose the family you feel is right for your child
  • Decide how much communication you want after placement
  • Create a plan that reflects your values and boundaries

This is your decision.

Our team is here to help you understand how the process works so you can move forward in a way that feels right to you.

Understanding the Types of Adoption

Adoption is not the same for everyone. There are a few different paths you can take, depending on what you are comfortable with.

Open adoption
You can have ongoing contact with the adoptive family. Communication might include visits, phone calls, photos, or messages over time.

Semi-open adoption
In a semi-open adoption, communication takes place through a third party, such as an agency or attorney. While the details are limited, this option allows for ongoing updates while maintaining privacy.

Closed adoption
A closed adoption means no contact or identifying information is shared between you and the adoptive family. While less common today, some women feel this option gives them the space they need to move forward.

What to Expect

Adoption does not cost you anything.

Agencies typically cover services related to the adoption process. Medical expenses not covered by insurance are often included. In some cases, support with housing, transportation, or other pregnancy-related needs may also be available.
